The current summer transfer window is a crucial period for FC Barcelona as they need to bolster their squad for the upcoming season while also ensuring that the club remains conformant to the FFP rules of La Liga. For this purpose, the club is aiming to obtain funds by selling some fringe players and thus reducing its wage bill.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the club has already received the first payment for one of its players. The player in question is the winger Francisco Trincao, who was already on loan at the Portuguese club Sporting CP.
The loan agreement with the Portuguese club included a mandatory purchase clause, according to which Sporting would buy the player permanently unless the club was relegated from Primeira Liga. Under this agreement, the Portuguese club would pay Barcelona a total of €10 million for the full purchase of the player.
Sporting had previously paid Barcelona €3 million for the loan of the player. Now, the Portuguese club has paid another €1.5 million, and the Catalans have received €4.5 million in total for the player up to now. The total agreed amount that Sporting have to pay is €10 million to obtain full sporting and economic ownership of the player.
The rest of the €5.5 million will be paid to Barcelona in August. However, FC Barcelona will retain a right to get 50% of proceeds from any future sale of the player.
The Portuguese player and the club have already reached an agreement between themselves for his purchase, and the player will remain at the club for 5 years. His release clause has been set to €80 million, which is the highest for any player in the Sporting club’s squad.
Thus, all three parties would be satisfied with this piece of business. Traincao came to Barcelona with high expectations, but was unable to live up to the hype during his time at the club. His loan to the Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers was not very productive either, and the player only found his groove after returning to his homeland with Sporting CP.
