While already completing three signings this summer, Barcelona are actively working on departures as well, with the latest one being the 21-year-old midfielder, Nico González. The homegrown player of the Blaugrana who spent last season on loan at Valencia is now ready to sign for Porto on a permanent transfer.
After returning from his loan spell at Valencia, Nico did not travel with the Blaugrana squad for the United States tour as the club was looking to offload the player while not letting go of him definitively. Finally, an agreement has been reached by the representatives of the two clubs, a permanent move with a buyback option included for Barcelona.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the agreement reached by the representatives of the Catalan club and Porto consists of a transfer fee of €11 million with a buyback option of around €15 million euros plus variables included. Initially, the Catalans preferred a simple loan while the Portuguese side only wanted a full purchase, but this formula finally satisfied both parties.
This exact detail caused the delay in closing the transfer, but finally, the two clubs came to a compromising solution to seal the deal. There is hope that the move will be finalized this Thursday and Nico, who has already traveled to Portugal to sign his Porto contract valid until 2027, can officially be unveiled as a ‘Dragões’ player soon.
Valencia, where he spent the last season on loan, were also among the options for the youngster, but they lacked the financial muscle to carry out the operation so they backed out of the bidding. However, the option of returning to Spain remains very much open for Nico if the Catalan club decides to exercise the buyback option in the future should he impress in Portugal.
