The current FC Barcelona team has more than a fair share of youngsters in it. Some of the main players in Xavi’s team currently are all quite young, including Pedri, Gavi, Balde, Kounde, and Araujo, who are all still below twenty-five years of age.
In addition to these players who are already established in the squad, there is another up-and-coming star in the team who has been making the headlines for the last few months. This is the youngster Lamine Yamal, who has already made his Barcelona debut to become the youngest debutant in the Catalan club’s history.
Lewandowski praises Yamal
Owing to his skills, performances, and age, Lamal has been getting praise from various quarters of the footballing world. As reported by SPORT, the latest to speak highly of the young forward is one of his teammates, Robert Lewandowski, who commented on Yamal’s game in an interview in Poland.
Regarding the performances of Yamal despite his youth, the Pole commented:
“He should still have a childhood. How many players who started playing for the first team at the age of 16 in the top clubs have played longer than 30? You won’t find any. Maybe one or two.”
Lewandowski believed it is particularly difficult for young players to shine today because of the internet:
“It’s harder for these young players because of social media. It used to be easier; we didn’t read everything.”
Lewandowski cautions against too much exposure
Lastly, Lewandowski cautioned that Lamie’s game time should be carefully managed, but also believed that Yamal had some unique skills that set him apart from other youngsters:
“I don’t mean to say he shouldn’t play. I don’t want those words to be taken that way. I love Lamine Yamal. I’ve seen many young players train, and I thought they were good, but he is different.”
Thus, as Lewandowski has commented, Lamine has shown that he is different than most other players aiming to become professional footballers today. The player has already shown that he is ready for the biggest stage, and hopefully, he will take the opportunities afforded to him to become a truly world-class player.
