With their season set to end without any piece of silverware, Barcelona will now have to focus on the upcoming summer transfer window to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season, and try once again to fight for all the possible titles.
In addition to new arrivals and sales, another aspect on which the Catalans will have to work in the upcoming days is the renewal of some of its players. One such player on whose new contract the Blaugranes have been working recently is the defender Pau Cubarsi.
As already reported here, negotiations between the Catalan club and the player’s entourage are progressing well, and the two parties have already agreed to most of the points of this new contract.
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that the defender is only one step away from signing this agreement, and the club can announce his renewal at the end of this week or the start of next week.
As things stand, there are only two points on which the involved parties are yet to come to an agreement. Firstly, Barcelona want a six-year contract, while Cubarsi’s entourage wants a five-year commitment.
Secondly, Barcelona want to make the defender a member of the €1 billion release clause group along with the likes of Gavi, Araujo, Fati, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal, but the player’s entourage would rather have a release clause set around the €400 million figure, as is the case with Fermin Lopez.
However, neither of these two issues is expected to be an obstacle in coming to an agreement on the new contract, especially as both Barcelona and the 17-year-old La Masia defender are aiming to continue working with one another.
Thus, with this operation reaching its conclusion, Barcelona fans can rest assured that the continuity of one of the best young defenders in the world is going to be guaranteed for them, despite the interest the player has received from other big European sides.
