Various operations continue to be assessed by FC Barcelona as the Catalan club reaches the final few days of the summer transfer window, with the management and technical sector of the club heavily focused on ensuring a reinforced squad is complete before the end of the window.
The main priority for Barcelona remains making one marquee offensive signing as well as that of a right-back as per the request of head coach Xavi Hernandez, and it remains certain that there are several options being assessed for both positions.
In terms of the right-back, Barcelona have several options on the table such as Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda, RCD Mallorca’s Pablo Maffeo, and Villarreal’s Juan Foyth. However, the priority target remains Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo.
As the operation for Cancelo continues to advance and evolve, with several reports over the last few hours suggesting a conclusive agreement is close, Barcelona could be set to lose out on another major summer target as a consequence.
According to Spanish journalist Javi Miguel, FC Barcelona could lose out on 28-year-old Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva if they manage to complete the signing of Joao Cancelo this summer.
The journalist clarified that it is an intentional refusal by Manchester City themselves as they refuse to lose Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo, and Bernardo Silva to Barcelona in the same window in a hattrick of taking away key Manchester City stars.
While it remains an understandable sentiment from those at the English club, it must be remembered that Bernardo Silva’s operation either way would have remained an immensely difficult operation to conclude on its own given the financial sacrifice it requires.
As it stands, Joao Cancelo’s arrival at Barcelona seems to be on the verge of becoming a very real possibility while Xavi’s priority target Bernardo Silva continues to slowly grow more and more distant from the Catalan club and get that much closer to renewing with the Blues of Manchester.
