Having won La Liga last season, FC Barcelona are not putting in very convincing performances to defend that title this season. The Catalans are currently eight points behind Girona and seven points behind Real Madrid in the league table and will have to get a consistent run of good results to overcome this distance.
While there has been a significant drop-off in the performances of the backline when compared with the last season, the attack is also not at its best. One of the aspects mostly held responsible for this poor performance of the attackers is the declining form of Robert Lewandowski, the main striker of the team.
Lewandowski’s output has drastically declined this season, and to make things even worse for the Catalan club, his wages are going to increase in the coming season even further after receiving a fillip this season, as he took a wage cut to join Barcelona. Next season, he will be among the highest-paid players in the squad.
But with Vitor Roque’s arrival at Barcelona, Lewandowski cannot remain the undisputed starter of the team unless he improves his numbers going forward.
However, SPORT reports that Barcelona are not going to force Lewandowski out of the club, and still count on the Polish striker for the coming years. On the other hand, the club will also not put up any resistance if the Pole decides to join another side.
Barcelona want Lewandowski to continue at the club if he feels comfortable. However, if he seeks a substantial paycheck in the twilight of his career, the Catalans believe he has earned the right to decide his future destination.
Some Saudi Arabian sides are particularly interested in the striker, and they also tried to convince him to go to the Middle East last summer. However, the player himself believes he can still play at the highest level for some years to come, and his physical condition is still exceptional.
