There are several reasons as to why Barcelona continue to struggle on the field. One of the primary causes has undoubtedly been the lack of proper recruitment. However, the reasoning behind that also stems from the financial incapabilities of Barcelona itself.
Riddled with debt and pending payments, even the sale of Barça Studios is being dragged out. All of these unfavorable concerns have ultimately put Barcelona in a tough spot. To relieve themselves of this stress, the only way out is to generate income one way or another.
Fortunately for La Blaugrana, there are various paths to generating said income. One of them, highlighted quite often, is the potential sale of former players with sell-on clauses. As such, one of the biggest possible assets in that sense is none other than Jean-Claire Todibo.
Currently at Nice, the French defender was already being pursued by Manchester United for quite some time. Now, however, as per SPORT, a new suitor arrives in the form of Bavarian giants Bayern Munich. The German outfit is reportedly quite invested in the idea of bringing the Frenchman over to the Bundesliga.
With Bayern having failed to sign Ronald Araujo, they now turn towards a former Barcelona player in the form of Todibo. The German outfit believe that his incorporation could help them deal with the problem of having very limited central defenders available.
For Barcelona, on the other hand, this would be a blessing in disguise. Having a 20% sell-on clause attached to the player, his sale would give the Catalan giants a good economic boost. At the moment, speculation suggests Nice would look to sell him for somewhere around €35-40 million.
Consequently, that would mean a payday of around €7-8 million for Barcelona. Given that this amount comes from a former Barça player no longer on their payroll, the incoming amount would be greatly appreciated. It could potentially help the Catalan giants make a signing of their choice in January.
Todibo was formerly a Barcelona player when he arrived at the club in 2019. After failing to incorporate himself properly within the club, he was sent out on multiple loans.
However, he was ultimately sold to OGC Nice in 2021, and provided Barcelona with €8.5 million as the transfer fee. Now, however, that 20% sell-on clause attached could also prove to be a great decision.
