Joshua Kimmich has been one of the players long been associated with FC Barcelona. The German international has been linked with the Catalan club since the end of last season, as his future at Bayern Munich remains uncertain.
Over the years, Kimmich has proved his footballing quality beyond any doubt, and every top European club would love to have him on their team. This is particularly true for Barcelona, as the Catalans are still looking for a player to replace Sergio Busquets in the midfield.
However, the total costs involved in this operation make it particularly difficult for Barcelona, and according to SPORT, another European powerhouse has now emerged as the favourite to land him, i.e., Paris Saint Germain.
The report mentions that PSG is already negotiating with the player through his intermediaries, but Kimmich would leave Bayern only in the next summer transfer window. For now, his two options are either to renew with Bayern Munich or go to France, as Barcelona has been ruled out as a possible destination.
The PSG President has publicly refused to comment on the player, but Luis Enrique has already given his approval to incorporate the player, and Kimmich is considering the offer.
Kimmich’s contract with Bayern Munich ends in 2025, and there has yet been no agreement to extend it. The Bavarians have made several offers for a renewal, but Kimmich is not only thinking about money. He is unsatisfied with the sporting project at Bayern and has already publicly criticised his team several times in recent months.
Barcelona found Bayern’s price for the player unaffordable and could have entered the bidding for him only if he ran out of his contract in 2025. But for now, the Catalans seem to be out of the race to get him, and will have to look at other options to strengthen their midfield for the next season.
