It is almost a given that FC Barcelona is expected to take some big measures in the summer. The Catalan club can not allow itself to lose its value and place among the greats of Europe. To do that, however, Barcelona will definitely be put in some uncomfortable positions during the summer window.
Given their major economic problems, something even highlighted by Javier Tebas himself, Barcelona may need to ensure some key exits. Players of high value and who possess a great list of suitors in the market need to be the first to go, and they would in turn add some significant funds to the Barcelona coffers.
Unfortunately for Barcelona, as well as fortunately to an extent, that is going to be difficult. There are players that Barcelona may be willing to part ways with, but there are those who are sportingly too vital to the team for Barça to let go of them.
As per SPORT, four players who could have departed have insisted on staying. The latest of those players is Andreas Christensen, a Danish defender who arrived for free in the summer.
His performances have been consistent and commendable, but Barça know that selling him would generate nothing but profit given that he was a free signing.
However, the former Chelsea man does not even consider parting ways with Barcelona: “I’m not going anywhere at all. I can’t think of anything other than staying here after the summer.”
Christensen is not the only one, however. Others such as Frenkie De Jong have openly hit back at the media speculating about his departure as he continues to be linked to other clubs and his agent also met with Deco recently. His contract is in place until 2026, and the Barcelona captain hopes to commit to it completely.
Ronald Araujo, another one of the team’s captains, has a similar case. Heavily linked to Bayern Munich, the Uruguayan defender has made it clear that his future lies with Barcelona:
“The fans should not be afraid of my leaving. I am very, very happy in Barcelona. I’ve been here for almost 5 years and every time I try to prove it by wearing this shirt.”
Even Deco, the Sporting Director of the club, provided assurance about the futures of both the captains just mentioned: “Nothing will happen with Araujo and Frenkie. They have a contract with us and we want to keep them.”
Another player, this time up front in the attack, also does not intend to leave. Raphinha, Barça’s more seasoned Brazilian forward, was speculated to be leaving in the summer due to the eruption of the prodigious Lamine Yamal. However, even Raphinha does not look to go anywhere before his Barcelona contract comes to an end.
