FC Barcelona will aim to get their various plans in motion within the coming weeks. The Catalan club, inspired to create a more competitive team for next season, have their priorities in order. One of the most prominent objectives for Barcelona, consequently, will be the arrival of a new pivot.

According to various reports, however, they have already made big progress on that end. 30-year-old Guido Rodriguez, currently a player for Real Betis and the Argentina National team, ends his contract with his club in the summer and it appears that Barcelona already has a pre-agreement in place with him.

While his arrival as a pivot will not be the only one that Barcelona most likely end their search after, he would bring in immediate quality and experience to the team. However, certain key figures from within Real Betis are still hoping for Guido Rodriguez to end up renewing.

As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, two key figures from Rodriguez’s current club have publicly shared their appreciation for him and have claimed that they hope to see him stay. One of those two figures is his teammate, Johnny Cardoso, and the US International stated the following about his club teammate:

“It is a pleasure to share the field with Guido, I hope he stays here.”

However, the midfielder was not the only one to share praise for his Real Betis partner. Another important figure was the Betis coach himself, Manuel Pellegrini, who stated a few weeks ago the importance of the player and his hope that he stays beyond this season.

Yet, most reports continue to claim that his future now lies with Barcelona. The Catalan giants will likely make more movements in the transfer window as well, but it appears that the Argentine will be their first signing. To ensure that they reach the level of competitiveness next season, Barcelona will need to play their cards right in the summer.
