The chapter of FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi did not have the happiest of endings when the Argentine superstar left the Catalan club more than two years ago, and a significant segment of Barcelona and Messi fans still desire a reunification of the two parties and a proper farewell to one of the biggest legends of the club.
After spending two years at PSG, Messi is now showcasing his talents to entertain the spectators in the USA, as he joined Inter Miami this summer. However, after a highly promising start to his career in the USA, results have not gone in favor of his new club recently.
Inter Miami out of MLS playoffs
Inter Miami lost to Cincinnati 1-0 in their last match, and with this loss, Inter Miami lost any hope of getting into the playoffs for MLS. This defeat generated some rumors regarding Messi and his return to Barcelona.
Messi would not be playing much club football with Inter Miami in the months to come, and one of the ways to mitigate this issue is by joining Barcelona on loan.
Such a route has already been taken by other high-profile names who have played in the MLS, including Thierry Henry, who returned to Arsenal when facing a situation similar to Messi.
None of the involved parties contemplating Messi’s loan to Barcelona
However, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are not even considering such a move and have all their attentions fixed on ensuring the arrival of Vitor Roque in January.
The FFP constraints of the Catalan club make Messi’s return an impossibility, especially as La Liga is expected to calculate a very high salary for the Argentine, considering his elite status.
Furthermore, the report mentions that Messi is also not contemplating any such move. He still has two games left to play with Inter Miami and another four official games with Argentina. One of them is the Superclásico de las Américas against Brazil in November, for which Messi will have to remain in top shape.
Lastly, Inter Miami are also planning friendlies to ensure they can generate as much income from Messi’s presence in their squad. Messi might have five or six weeks of vacation after these matches, but in January, he will once again have the pre-season with Inter Miami and start the official season in February.
Inter Miami’s head coach, Tata Martino, also claimed ignorance of any movement regarding Messi’s return to Barcelona in a recent media talk as well.
Thus, rumors of Messi’s return to Barcelona on loan are only smoke without fire, and neither of the involved parties is seriously considering such a move.
