FC Barcelona advanced to the Copa del Rey Round of 16 after winning their match against Barbastro with a 3-2 scoreline. Fermin Lopez, Raphinha, and Roberto Lewandowski scored the three goals for Barcelona, with Raphinha being the stand-out performer.
Now, having secured a place in the next round, the Catalans will be looking to find whom they will face in their next match in the tournament. In this round, the teams competing in the Spanish Super Cup will no longer have any privileges, and can face any of the teams that have progressed to the Round of 16.
The draw of this Round of 16 will take place today, on Monday, in the Assembly Hall of the Las Rozas Football City, the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation.
Thus, as SPORT has noted, Barcelona can face any of the fifteen teams that have advanced to the next round of the competition along with Barcelona. The match between Villarreal and Unionistas is yet to be played, but barring these two teams, the rest of the possible competitors of Barcelona are as follows:
- Atlético de Madrid
- Getafe
- Girona
- Rayo Vallecano
- Alavés
- Real Madrid
- Celta
- Mallorca
- Sevilla
- Osasuna
- Athletic Club
- Valencia
- Real Sociedad
- Tenerife
- Unionistas or Villarreal
Thus, depending on which team Barcelona draws, there can be some interesting matches coming up for the Catalans in this round. A Copa del Rey Clasico cannot be ruled out, while Barcelona can also draw fellow high-flying Catalans Girona.
Furthermore, A Madrid derby can also be in the offing, if Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid draw each other.
For Barcelona, needless to say, the upcoming rounds will only get more difficult, as only the most competitive of these teams will advance to the latter rounds of the tournament. Thus, Xavi’s men will have to put in significantly better performances in upcoming matches than they did against Barbastro.
