Generating funds through player sales is one part of the strategy being pursued by FC Barcelona to comply with La Liga’s FFP requirements. The club is open to selling a number of its players that are not integral to the squad going forward and would consider any suitable offers for its fringe players.
One of the players who did not play a conspicuous part in the squad last season was the center-back Eric Garcia. The Spaniard only had 24 La Liga appearances throughout the season, and was far behind the starting defenders Kounde, Araujo, and Christensen in the pecking order.
Inigo Martinez has also signed for the club, and as Garcia’s importance could further decline, the club is open to selling him this summer.
SPORT reports that the Serie A side, Inter Milan, are interested in the player. The Italian side is currently looking to strengthen its squad by signing two center-backs, as they have lost their long-term player, Milan Skriniar, to PSG, and they see Garcia as a good option in the current market.
However, the terms of the transfer are still far from settled. FC Barcelona value the player between the €10-15 million range, and want to sell him permanently to an interested side, but Inter Milan are not in the best financial conditions right now. However, a compromise can be reached with a loan with the condition to buy the player permanently next season.
The player himself has not made his mind up regarding his future. He wants to remain in Barcelona, but also realizes that Xavi would not be able to provide him with as many chances as he was afforded this season, and this can also jeopardize his place with the Spanish national team.
Thus, while the operation is still in its initial stages, Inter Milan could be the destination for Eric Garcia for the next season. Barcelona should consider selling him if a suitable offer comes, as they already have enough depth in the backline, and urgently need to trim their squad.
