The troubles of FC Barcelona continue unabated as the Catalans once again could not get the full three points in their last La Liga match against Valencia.
The Blaugranes were on the front foot throughout the match, but, as both Joao Cancelo and Xavi Hernandez claimed after the match, were unable to take advantage of their chances in the opposition box.
Joao Felix scored the only goal for Barcelona, but the chances were there to score three or four more goals. Robert Lewandowski is getting a lot of blame for a lot of these missed chances, as he got several chances in the Valencia box, but was unable to beat Giorgi Mamardashvili.
This performance comes on top of a rather long period of poor form, as the striker has scored only three goals since the end of September. His being the only natural striker in the squad makes this run of poor form especially costly for Barcelona.
Despite his unconvincing performance on the pitch, the Pole was still able to showcase his leadership skills after the match. As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the striker took to social media to ensure fans that the team will work hard to overcome this difficult period of time in the coming days:
“1 point tonight is such a disappointment, but we’re working hard to get back on the right track, and we will do it.”
His continued run of poor form will make it difficult for Cules to raise their hopes even with this message. However, Lewandowski and Barcelona will soon have the opportunity to show that they mean business as they face Almeria on Wednesday, in what will be the last official match for the team in this calendar year.
After this match and before the end of the year, the team will also travel to the USA for a friendly in Dallas, after which the team will go on Christmas break and start the new year with a match against Las Palmas.
