The current atmosphere at FC Barcelona is one of tension and uncertainty about the club’s workings. La Blaugrana are not performing up to the mark in La Liga, having dropped points twice in a row in quick succession.
A 4-2 loss to Girona was followed by a 1-1 draw between Barcelona and Valencia in the Spanish first division.
However, much of the criticism for these various dropped points has come down to one man, Xavi Hernandez. The Barcelona coach has faced intense scrutiny in recent weeks, with numerous reports speculating that the Catalan club might contemplate a managerial change.
Beyond just the results, however, Blaugranes have also been playing poorly. Known for their dominant style of play in the past, Xavi’s Barcelona has been far from it. However, according to a very reliable source, the Barcelona coach is safe in his position for now.
As per the words of Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Xavi’s position in Barcelona is not under any immediate threat. The coach retains the faith of the Blaugrana higher-ups, and especially the confidence of Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
However, Romano elaborated, that no one at the club is happy with the current results. A turnaround is expected and the managerial staff is working to ensure that they can turn the situation around. The main emphasis is on La Liga, as the club has dropped many points already in the competition.
Yet, many at Barcelona believe that the January transfer window can shake things up. The Catalans remain one of the best chance creators in the entirety of Europe, but they are simultaneously also quite poor at finishing those chances.
Consequently, Vitor Roque’s arrival, as highlighted by Romano, is seen as a great potential boost to this team. However, Xavi is still expected to help the team regain its best version no matter what it takes.
