FC Barcelona will soon kick off their official 2023/2024 La Liga campaign against Jose Bordelas’s Getafe CF at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday, with the clash set to be one that could show Barcelona where they truly are at in terms of preparation for the challenges ahead.
Prior to the match, however, a major dilemma remains intact for the Catalan club in the case of player registrations, without which Xavi Hernandez would be left without several key Barcelona players heading into the game against Getafe.
However, Barcelona have fortunately managed to start registering players courtesy of the new funds injected into the club through various asset sales and departures of players such as Ousmane Dembele and Franck Kessie.
The players that FC Barcelona has managed to register within the records of La Liga in recent days have included Ronald Araujo and Ilkay Gundogan, with reports suggesting that Ez Abde, Oriol Romeu and Sergi Roberto could become the next players to be registered.
Apart from the obviously injured Inigo Martinez, there is one player whose registration continues to be delayed by Barcelona, and as per Spanish journalist Victor Navarro, his registration would potentially be left unresolved heading into the game on Sunday.
The player in question is 32-year-old defender Marcos Alonso, who joined FC Barcelona last summer on a free transfer following the ending of his previous contract on mutual terms with English Premier League side Chelsea.
Moreover, the Spanish reporter claims that out of the unregistered players left in the squad, Alonso reportedly earns the highest salary per year and thus far his registration would understandably take up more financial margin than the other unregistered players.
From a perspective as well, the 32-year-old is more of a depth-providing player for Xavi Hernandez rather than a definitive Barcelona starter that would have been a priority for the club to register in time for the Getafe clash, with certain other players being much more vital given their defined places among the priority starters for the Barcelona coach.
