Currently, the most senior player at FC Barcelona, the captain Sergio Busquets has announced his decision to leave FC Barcelona at the end of the season. Thus, the league title won this week will be the last of his numerous titles that Busquets has won with the club.
While the declining physicality and prowess of the midfielder have long led to voices for his departure from the club. However, in recent days, there was another element at work regarding the decisions of some veterans to continue playing at the club.
This factor was the possible return of Lionel Messi, and it was reported that veterans like Alba and Busquets will continue with FC Barcelona if Messi makes his return. This was also the subject of questions put to Sergio Busquets after the last match against Real Sociedad.
Answering these questions, the Barcelona captain was clear that his decision to leave the club at the end of the season was not related to Lionel Messi in any way according to a report from Mundo Deportivo.
Further explaining his decision, the captain was of the view that everyone makes his decision according to his own circumstances, life, and the factors that he considers important in his life.
Thus, he indicated that the decision to leave the club has been taken because of his own life and family conditions, and was not related to Messi’s return to the club, or lack thereof.
He still showed a desire to share the pitch with Messi once again, especially because he was the best player in the world. Thus, speculation that Busquets is leaving the club because Messi would not return to Camp Nou this summer should be dispelled by Busquets’ remarks to a significant extent.
This is not to indicate that Messi is likely to come to Barcelona either, as there are a number of barriers to be crossed before Messi and Barcelona can eventually reunite.
