FC Barcelona are aware of their financial woes, but continue to monitor top players in the market. The club has successfully completed the signing of Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, Vitor Roque, and Oriol Romeu, all of whom were brought on financially viable terms.
However, in spite of an arduous economic climate, Bernardo Silva remains a pipe dream the Catalan giants continue to cling onto.
According to Diario AS, Barcelona proceed to fantasize about signing the Portuguese. However, without an unforeseen large sale or a swap exchange, the transaction is all but impossible.
Last summer, Pep Guardiola acknowledged, “Bernardo Silva genuinely likes Barcelona”. The player’s own assertion to join and Xavi’s fondness towards the midfielder has pushed the possibility of a transfer.
Nonetheless, Bernardo’s contractual obligations with Manchester City make his potential arrival an unattainable hope for the Blaugranes. Unlike Gündogan, who was easily acquired as a free agent, Ferran Soriano and Txiki are unwilling to part with Bernardo due to his high market worth of €80 million.
Hence, Barcelona can only aspire to sign him in the event they make a spectacular offer, which is improbable unless one of the club’s star players is put on the market. Last season, Barcelona attempted to sell Frenkie de Jong in order to sign Bernardo, but the move failed to come to fruition.
Now the Blaugranes could enter the possibility of swapping Frenkie with Bernardo or adding some of their other players, but this is also unlikely due to Frenkie’s increased significance in the squad, following his excellent performances last season.
Xavi considers Bernardo Silva, who is 28 years old, to be one of those unique players that always executes the play as it is called for. Both the coach and the player would be thrilled to see him clothed in a Blaugrana uniform, but the transfer process is currently complicated because of financial limitations.
