FC Barcelona are more than just a football club, and they are many things beyond just that. One of their major responsibilities apart from being a sporting entity is being a brand. Among the most profitable football clubs in the world, Barcelona have a unique sense of influence.
For this reason, it is important to keep connections strong according to where the Catalans need them to be. One such connection was the sponsorship and partnership with American brand Nike. A long-standing partnership, it has recently managed to see itself decline.
In fact, the severity of the division between Nike and Barcelona has reached an insane high. There were some voices within Barcelona who wish that relations be patched and that Barça continue with Nike, but it seems that the club is going to be taking a different route.
Despite Nike’s improved offer, as per speculation, Barcelona are looking to change their kit providers. At the moment, according to a recent report from Spanish news outlet SPORT, the Catalan giants inch ever closer to making a deal with German brand Puma as their new partners.
The one leading the charge to separate from Nike is reportedly none other than Joan Laporta. For the Barcelona president, the club has to take a step in a new direction for its betterment. Economically, Puma’s offer to Barcelona is superior than that of Nike’s, and that seems to be the driving force.
While there are those in the club, as mentioned previously, who still believe Nike is the right partner for FC Barcelona, others think differently. Some groups are in favor of Blaugranes making their own brand, while others remain skeptical. At the moment, there is little consensus, but Laporta seems keen about the prospect of Puma.
