Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso

Barcelona defender assessing offers from Premier League – Romero

With the current economic situation at FC Barcelona, it becomes quite a huge hurdle for the Catalan giants to register players and incorporate new signings and the Barcelona higher-ups continue to devise methods which would allow them to overcome these limitations.

Apart from the levers being executed to generate more funds as well as the hopes of an agreement with certain players to defer their salaries with extended Barcelona contracts, the sale of certain players would be a great way to generate not just more funds but also create a more substantial salary margin to work with.

Clement Lenglet and Sergino Dest are the two players that Barcelona are looking to offload as soon as possible. Furthermore, there have been reports that the Catalans would also be open to selling Marcos Alonso if a suitable offer comes for him.

An update about the 32-year-old defender, Marcos Alonso, has been provided by the Spanish journalist Gerard Romero. Romero claims that the Spaniard is already in the middle of assessing offers from the English Premier League, where he previously has represented Chelsea to great effect and has enjoyed a successful time in the English First Division prior to his move to Barcelona.

While he has been a great outlet in terms of rotation players that Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has had the option to count on when other stars were unavailable due to suspension or injuries, and last season the depth he provided was key to Barcelona being able to clinch the La Liga title.

However, he remains unregistered this season at FC Barcelona as Xavi Hernandez already considers him surplus to requirements and among the few that are still to be registered, his name is present just as the rest apart from Inigo Martinez whose reasoning of not yet being registered is primarily injured based.

Now having much more depth in the defensive zones than last season, Xavi and Barcelona could likely look to offload the veteran defender in the hopes of generating more additional revenue from his sale if possible. Given that he arrived on a free, this fee would be all profit if there is any associated with his potential sale, and it would also free up the salary budget.
