The task of player registrations has not gone exactly as planned at FC Barcelona, as the club has still not been able to get three of its players who are needed by Xavi for the next season registered with La Liga.
Marcos Alonso, Inigo Martinez, and Inaki Pena are all a part of Xavi’s plans for the next season, but none of them has yet been registered as a part of the Barcelona squad for the season ahead. Clement Lenglet and Sergino Dest were also not registered, but they are not needed by Xavi, and Dest has already been officially sent on loan to PSV Eindhoven.
Marcos Alonso not thinking of leaving Barcelona
The registration of Marcos Alonso is perhaps the most urgently needed by Xavi. The Barcelona head coach will be without one of his defensive players, Ronald Araujo, as he suffered from an injury, and as Inigo Martinez is also currently recovering from physical problems, his registration would not have made much difference to Xavi.
On the other hand, Alonso has been fit and ready to play, but still had to miss the first two games of La Liga because of his registration problems.
Meanwhile, there have been reports that Barcelona are open to selling the Spanish defender, if a suitable offer comes for him in the remaining days of the transfer window. However, SPORT reports that Marcos Alonso is not considering leaving the Catalan club this summer.
Xavi wants Alonso to remain at Barcelona
The report further mentions that Xavi also does not want Marcos Alonso to leave Barcelona this summer, especially with the departure of Alex Valle on loan to Levante. In the current scenario, Alonso is the only left-back present in the squad who can replace Alejandro Balde, and his services will be needed by Xavi for the strenuous season coming ahead.
Alonso is expected to play mainly on the left flank this season, after spending most of his play time in the center of the defense last time. Barcelona need to get him registered this week, and the already-realized departure of Sergino Dest, and the potential sale of Clement Lenglet can significantly help Barcelona in this regard.
