FC Barcelona continues to count on its academy to produce great talents. La Blaugrana have always been rather reliant on La Masia to help them solve their problems. Even now, the academy continues to deliver. Especially this season, many academy products have delivered for Barcelona.
One name that undeniably stands out from among them is that of Marc Guiu. The 17-year-old Spanish striker is one of the subsidiary’s latest revelations and his season with the first team has shown glimpses of his great talent.
In fact, his potential and quality has been so great that Barça now look towards the future with his name in mind. According to SPORT, Barcelona hope to renew the Spaniard beyond his current contract’s expiry date.
As per the report, Guiu’s current agreement is valid until 2025, which means that there is still time to arrange an extension. Barcelona is trying to finalize it sooner rather than later, however.
The player signed his current contract back in 2022 when he was 16 years old. Due to the established rules, the youngster could not sign with Barcelona beyond a 3-year extension. This meant that his contract extension in 2022 only saw him extend his stay until 2025.
Now, with his quality becoming more evident for all to see, Barcelona hope to keep him well beyond that. La Blaugrana hope to be able to count on a pure La Masia striker for the future, and Guiu fits the bill. Moreover, even the player himself continues to dream of succeeding at FC Barcelona.
Interestingly, it seems that the Blaugrana loyalty is in his blood. With his family also hailing from Barcelona, the player’s allegiances lie with the club and the city. As such, he pays no attention to interest from elsewhere, and works towards success only at Barça.
Guiu remains thankful to Xavi Hernandez for the opportunities he has been given as well. Despite not being a regular, he has still been given several chances to prove his quality.
The player has not disappointed, having scored goals in various competitions for the first team, but much of the credit still goes to Xavi for trusting him.
