One of the most highly promising talents that FC Barcelona has produced in the last few years, Ansu Fati, left the club this summer to join Brighton and Hove Albion on a season-long loan.
After having a spectacular start to his Camp Nou career, Ansu Fati has struggled with injuries and lack of form in the last three seasons. While the player has seemingly gotten over his never-ending injuries now, he still found it difficult to find form or playing time at Barcelona last season.
Fati on loan at Brighton
It was exactly these two aspects that Barcelona wanted Fati to recover with a spell away from the Catalan club. Brighton, although a surprising choice, is a good project for a player like Fati, who can benefit from playing under a competent coach and further improve his game.
However, as SPORT has argued, Fati would not find playing at Brighton a walk in the park. While they are not the most prominent side in the Premier League, Brighton still have a highly effective forward line comprising Mitoma, March, and Evan Ferguson. Thus, Fati will have to fight for a starting spot at Brighton and convince the coach with the minutes he gets.
Debut in the Premier League
He did get some minutes in Brighton’s last match against Manchester United, as Fati made his debut in the Premier League. He came on in the 64th minute, replacing Adam Lallana, at a time when Brighton were already two goals up.
However, Fati still contributed to further extend his team’s advantage by dragging a defender away to the far post, which helped Joao Pedro get space and score the third goal for Brighton. He had another opportunity to widen the goal surplus further but missed a one-on-one chance against Onana as his shot went wide.
Thus, Ansu will have to fight to get a spot in Brighton, and his debut, while not perfect, had encouraging signs that Fati can make use of this opportunity to play in the Premier League and return to Barcelona in better form and as a better player overall.
