After the defeat to Villarreal last night, the FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. Shocking as this announcement was, the Blaugranes have no other way forward but to look for the possible replacements of Xavi.
As already reported, there are four options that the Catalans are considering bringing to the Barcelona bench for the next season, i.e., Thiago Motta, Rafa Marquez, Michel, and Imanol Alguacil. However, there is another coach that the Barcelona dressing room would like to work with.
According to SPORT, if the decision was left to them, the majority of individuals in the Barcelona locker room will agree on working with Luis Enrique. The current PSG coach had coached Barcelona to a treble in 2014-15, and has been one of the most successful coaches for the club in its recent history.
Furthermore, several players in the Barcelona squad have already worked under the Spaniard, and have very good memories of him. Sergi Roberto and Ter Stegen were a part of the squad when this previously mentioned treble was won, and the former shone particularly in one of the most memorable nights for the Catalan club, the remontada against PSG.
Furthermore, Roberto has also played under Enrique with the Spanish national team, as also has Pedri, who described the coach as the best he has worked with. Ferran Torres and Eric Garcia, who is set to return to Barcelona at the end of this season, have also been trusted well by the former Barcelona coach for Spain.
Alejandro Balde also went to the World Cup under Enrique, and Inigo Martinez, while he did not get selected for the Spanish side, will also support the former Barcelona coach. Romeu had also played under him at Barca Atletic.
Meanwhile, Enrique himself would be open to returning to Barcelona if he were free, but as things stand, he joined PSG only in the last summer, and has only gotten started to get his Parisian team firing.
Thus, it is unlikely that he will leave a project as big as PSG only one year after joining them, but the Blaugrana players would definitely love to have him back.
