FC Barcelona are in a lot of news regarding transfers in the last few days of the summer window. The defense is in particular flux, with several of Barcelona defenders linked to a move away from the club and Joao Cancelo nearing a move to the Catalan capital.
One of the defenders who has been linked with a move away from Barcelona is the center-back, Eric Garcia. The former La Masia player came back to Barcelona from Manchester City in 2021, but has since struggled to find a fixed position in the club’s backline despite being given a number of chances.
Xavi wants to count on Eric Garcia
In recent days, there has been news of an interest from Girona for Garcia. The Montilivi side is not interested in Garcia only as a reinforcement for their defensive line, but also as a cover for Oriol Romeu, who joined the Catalan giants this summer.
However, Mundo Deportivo reports that Xavi wants Eric Garcia to remain in Barcelona. Except for Lenglet, Xavi is not willing to part with any of his center-backs this summer. That is especially the case since the injury to Ronald Araujo and because of the fact that Inigo Martinez has just joined training after a lengthy problem with his fasciitis plantar.
The report further mentions that sources at the club are even denying Garcia having any interest from Girona, and claim that the status of the defender is not likely to change in this summer window.
Garcia wants to stay but does not dislike Girona
Eric Garcia is not particularly against the idea of playing for Girona, but he is currently happy at Barcelona, even with his secondary role in the squad. He also believes he has the potential to succeed at Barcelona.
Xavi has also reassured Garcia that he is in his plans for this season. Thus, Garcia will stay at Barcelona, and leave only if an irresistible offer arrives, which has not been the case yet.
