As FC Barcelona enter 2024, they are faced with a substantial list of injured stars currently sidelined. For La Blaugrana, the new year is expected to be a turning point, but one for which they will need to work hard. However, their recurring casualties have already caused them a lot of problems this season.
Pedri, Gavi, Inigo Martinez, Marcos Alonso, and Marc Andre Ter Stegen are all currently sidelined due to injuries. At least four of those players are starting quality stars for Barcelona, and thus their absence is being felt quite heavily.
However, Barcelona were also given another worrying scare following their last training session. German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, a key player for Xavi Hernandez, barely survived what could have been a very problematic incident.
During gym work, there was a mishap with the weights that Gundogan was working with and it resulted in him getting a cut on his head.
Not long after, the German midfielder received several stitches to help close the wound. Fortunately for Barcelona, however, it seems that the former Manchester City star will be fit for Las Palmas clash. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Gundogan trained normally in the latest training session.
Scheduled as the first of the new year training sessions, the one held on the first of January saw no unwanted occurrences. It also saw Ilkay Gundogan participate normally and complete the training session with the rest of his team.
Ronald Araujo was also seen training without the help of a mask. Previously, the Uruguayan had to use the aid of one to help keep his damaged cheekbones protected. However, it seems that he has received the medical clearance to now participate without needing it.
Apart from both of these players, all the available players also finished the training without any issues. Even the youngsters from the subsidiary managed to end training on a positive note. Barcelona now look towards UD Las Palmas and their encounter against Garcia Pimienta’s side on the 4th of January.
