FC Barcelona continue to assess the limitations of their spending capabilities in this ongoing summer transfer window, but while focusing on the idea of arrivals, they have not lost track of other priorities.
One key detail that the Catalan club remains massively aware of is the renewal and registration of their current players in order to ensure the competitive Barcelona team of last season retains its core players and components in order to sustain compatibility and development on the same wavelength.
Arrivals such as Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, and Oriol Romeu are surely additions that will bolster the current squad, but without retaining key players from before Barcelona would be unable to progress as they would ideally like.
As per a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, the latest development within FC Barcelona is the negotiation of a contract renewal with French winger Ousmane Dembele, whose current contract runs out in June of next year.
According to the report, the proposed offer by Barcelona would see the 26-year-old winger extend his stay at the Catalan club until at least 2027, adding 3 additional years to his current expected stay at the club.
Dembele has been crucial during the tenure of Xavi Hernandez, having found his best form yet in the colors of FC Barcelona since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, in terms of both goal contributions and overall level of fitness and importance to the team.
With less than 12 months left on his contract and an active €50 million release clause in place, Barcelona will need to add urgency to their negotiations with the Frenchman as interested clubs begin to line up. This was even showcased when the winger recently rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr according to various sources.
