The one position that FC Barcelona want to strengthen going into the next season is that of the midfield pivot, and the Catalans have been linked with several players in the last few weeks for this purpose.

The Blaugranes were also looking to reinforce this position last year, when Sergio Busquets left the club, and one of the players that has been closely linked with Barcelona since that time is the Bayern Munich midfielder, Joshua Kimmich.

The German is facing a very uncertain future with the Bavarian club, as there is only one year left on his current contract and no agreement yet in place for a renewal. Several clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, are keeping an eye on his situation.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, all these clubs were provided an update on the midfielder’s situation as the Bayern Munich Sporting Director, Max Eberl, has revealed the condition set by Kimmich to resolve his situation at the German club.

Talking about Kimmich, the official said:

“Josh -Kimmich- has told us clearly: ‘I want to know who the new coach is’. The final word lies with him. Then certain questions will arise. If he wants to -continue- if we want to… The final word lies with him. But the first thing is the coach issue.”

Thus, as Eberl commented, Kimmich will make a decision about his future only after Bayern Munich decide on a name to take over from Thomas Tuchel. The ideal scenario for Barcelona would be for the midfielder to stay at Bayern for another year without renewing, so they can get him for free next year.

However, there is a lot of uncertainty regarding his future at the moment, and if the player decides to change clubs this summer, Barcelona will not be able to afford him, and will have to look at other names to reinforce themselves.
