Keeping up with their golden tradition, Brazil continues to produce top-class footballing talent, and FC Barcelona were able to sign the most in-form of the up-and-coming Brazilian talents, Vitor Roque, in the last summer transfer window.
The striker arrived at his new club in the last days of December, and has already made his Barcelona debut. He can witness the Catalans win their first trophy tonight as Barcelona face Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final.
As already reported here, there were several clubs trying to sign the striker last summer, but the Brazilian opted for Barcelona to live his dream of playing for the Catalan club. Now, after Roque, there is another Brazilian winger performing at a very high level who also dreams of playing for Xavi’s team.
This player is the 16-year-old Estevao Willian, nicknamed Messinho, who currently plays for Série A club Palmeiras. The youngster has already publicly declared his desire to play for Barcelona, but having done his part, he now needs the Catalan club to play its part in making a move happen.
However, their financial difficulties make it impossible for Barcelona to make such a move. Meanwhile, the Premier League side Chelsea is willing to do whatever it takes to sign the player and is open to paying his €60 million release clause.
Even with his future in such a flux, the Brazilian starlet has not stopped shining on the pitch. As Mundo Deportivo has noted, the striker shone once again in his last match between Palmeiras U-20 and Sport Recife U-20 in the Sao Paolo Junior Cup.
His team came out as the 3-1 victors in the match, and Messinho was integral in this win as he contributed two assists. One of these assists was particularly difficult, and the youngster went on to prove his credentials as a top-class talent.
