Despite the several reinforcements needed in their squad, the only addition that FC Barcelona made to their team in the last winter transfer window was that of the Brazilian striker Vitor Roque.
The youngster was already signed by the Catalans in the last summer transfer window, and after joining Xavi’s team in January, Vitor Roque is still getting adjusted to his new life.
Up to now, he has scored two goals for Barcelona, but it must be confessed that his impact for the team has not been as high as was expected when he arrived. However, as SPORT has reported, the Brazilian himself was confident he would end up being important for the team, as he talked to the Barcelona magazine:
“I’m sure I’m going to be very important for the team. With each game, I gain more confidence. In my first Champions League match, I got goosebumps, and now I can assure you that we will fight to win that title.”
The striker also shared his main motivation whenever he is on the pitch, and also disclosed his prioritized position: “I try to work to the maximum and take advantage of the opportunities that Xavi gives me. Little by little, I am getting into it.”
“In my mind, I am always focused on helping the team, whether it’s with goals or assists. I feel better playing in the center of the attack, but I am ready to play on the left or on the right.”
Roque was also ecstatic with how Barcelona fans have received him: “When I scored my first goal against Osasuna, I didn’t know how to celebrate it. It was very important for me and for the team, as it meant three points.”
“I am very happy to receive the love from the fans. They always shout my name in the stadium Tigrinho, Tigrinho. I am very pleased with the reception I have had.”
The Brazilian pointed out one of the midfielders as the teammate who had impressed him the most: “It’s not that I didn’t expect it, but what I can see here is more than what I can see on television. And who has impressed me the most is Frenkie de Jong.”
Lastly, Roque also mentioned his compatriots who had shone at Barcelona before him and whom he looked up to: “They motivate me to build my story at Barça. The player I’m closest to is Ronaldo Nazario. Neymar is my idol because he’s more recent.”
Barcelona fans will be expecting to see more of Roque on the pitch after his good run of form was broken by an unfortunate suspension, and his contributions can be key as Barcelona arrive at the decisive phase of the season.
