There are many names that FC Barcelona remains linked to due to their prestige as a club. These include major names from the top European clubs as well as aspiring youngsters. However, there are very few players that can manage to get the Catalan club to actively pursue their signature.

For Barcelona, one such name currently plays for English Premier League side Manchester City. Hailing from Portugal, 29-year-old Bernardo Silva is a great dream for FC Barcelona. Xavi Hernandez, in particular, sees him as the missing piece in his Catalan side.

Acknowledging a Barcelona great

However, due to various reasons, mainly all financial, Barça and Silva could not meet. Despite the player’s reported dream and aspirations to play for Barcelona, he remains at City, contracted until 2026.

Yet, in a recent interview with ESPN, he gave another nod to his fantasies of Barcelona. As highlighted by Spanish outlet SPORT, Bernardo Silva recently named a Barcelona legend as his stylistic idol:

“The player I have always admired is Iniesta. I loved his way of playing.”

Possible arrival in Spain

The Spaniard, once part of the greatest Barça generation, remains an icon for many fans of the sport. However, Silva’s words hold a particularly special essence for the Catalan club. As SPORT interprets it, it could even be a new hint for Barcelona to take.

Yet, despite the mutual admiration from both club and player, Manchester City remains a huge hurdle. The asking price for Silva will undoubtedly cross the €60 million mark. Hence, it becomes difficult for Barcelona to potentially make a move for the Portuguese star.
