Barcelona target Benjamin Pavard

French defender slipping past FC Barcelona – report

Barcelona seem to be on the verge of a plethora of various targets apparently slipping their grasp on the face of it. However, there is more to it than meets the eye.

Following earlier reports that suggested Jules Kounde was not content with being restricted to the right-back position despite his preference to play more centrally, Barcelona became much more inclined to bring in a specialist right-back to allow the Frenchman to be deployed at his natural central position.

Now, as the most recent report from SPORT suggests, following the news that Joao Cancelo may be straying away from Barcelona, it now seems likely that another one of the Catalan club’s right-back targets is headed out of the picture.

Benjamin Pavard, right-back for the France National team and Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, was another one of the names that Barcelona were inclined to check in on so that a possible arrival could be sorted for the French fullback.

However, it seems now that the Catalans have given up on pursuing a right-back in the short term and are more convinced about recruiting players for other positions, Pavard is becoming more and more distant of a priority.

The 27-year-old sees his contract expiring next year with interest from sides such as Liverpool and Inter Milan already in the picture, it seems his future lies outside of Germany whether it is with Barcelona or even an entirely different club altogether.

Bayern’s current asking price for the Frenchman remains at €30 million, something only a handful of clubs would consider paying for his services right now, with Barcelona seemingly less fascinated by it.
