The final days of the summer transfer window have arrived, and FC Barcelona are yet to incorporate certain players into the team while also ensuring the departure of others who are no longer considered to be part of Xavi Hernandez’s plans for his side.
Among those yet to be incorporated within FC Barcelona are Inigo Martinez, Inaki Pena, and soon-to-arrive Manchester City fullback Joao Cancelo, who is already awaiting the final clearance of Financial Fairplay that would allow Barcelona to be able to bring him in officially.
Consequently, the Catalan club is now looking for alternative options to generate the required funds in order to incorporate these players or at least make a wide enough gap in the salary margin to do so.
The thought of offloading French defender Clement Lenglet is still active, but it appears that another door may potentially open up as well within the final few days of the window.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, English Premier League outfit Manchester United are interested in taking away 32-year-old Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso on loan for a while.
Considering the former Chelsea defender to be an adequate replacement for the recently injured Luke Shaw, expected to be unavailable for the Red Devils for at least two months due to a muscular injury, United consider taking away Alonso until January on loan.
The option is something Barcelona considers favorable, despite its unusual nature. The Catalan giants would be able to have more of a free space within their salary margin and more easily be able to incorporate the pending folders within the squad should it happen.
For United, the attraction towards Alonso also comes from the fact that he has vast prior experience in the English Premier League having represented Chelsea, Bolton Wanderers, and Sunderland during his time in England.
It will be a subject to keep an eye on as Barcelona have already registered Alonso within the records of the first team. It is seen as a sign of goodwill towards the Spanish veteran for the help he has given Barcelona and the patience he has had with various ordeals.
