If there has been one constant at Barcelona this season, it has been their reliance on youth. Forced to move away from their high spendings in the transfer market, the Catalan giants have returned to their basic roots. Once the pioneers of relying on youth talent, Barcelona are now back to their original antics.
Many talented youngsters have already debuted this season, and fifteen quarry talents in total have made their senior debut under Xavi Hernandez since he returned to FC Barcelona as a coach. One of those talented youngsters is Pau Cubarsi, who has managed to become a first-team mainstay despite being a 17-year-old central defender.
However, he was previously one of the primary sentinels of Barcelona Atletic under Rafa Marquez. He also had a partner there named Mikayil Faye, who is another great defensive talent of Barcelona and is aged just 19 himself. A Senegalese starlet, he has even already made his senior team debut for his country with an unreal goal to add to it.
Yet, he has not made his first-team debut for Barcelona so far. That is expected to change soon, according to SPORT. The report states that it may even change as soon as in the upcoming clash against Cadiz, where Xavi could look to rotate his team around.
The Senegalese defender, believed to be ready for the first team both by himself and his entourage, wants to make his mark at the highest level. He has already featured for the Barcelona first team during their pre-season tour, but he wants to make it official and Xavi could finally give him that opportunity.
Pau Cubarsi has already done it and become a first-team regular, and Faye believes he has the capability to do the same. However, even if he does end up featuring against Cadiz, he will likely do so as a substitute.
Still, many regulars who stay updated about Barcelona Atletic know of his immense quality, and they are more than eager to see him perform at the highest level.
There is also some speculation about where his future lies beyond this season. Some reports suggest Barcelona could look to integrate him into the first team regardless of the overbooking of central defenders, while others suggest that a move away from the club with a reasonable buy-back option could be the way forward for him.
