The foundations at the heart of the defense of FC Barcelona lie in the reliability of their defenders. As was seen last season, Barcelona were dominant defensively in domestic competitions due to their reliable defensive outlets.
Now, heading into the upcoming 2023/2024 season, the very first confirmed transfer of Barcelona, albeit not officially, was that of Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez, marking the very first arrival being that of a defender as well.
As a result, there will understandably be more competition for the defense-based places in the starting eleven, which in turn will result in decreased game time for the players that Xavi Hernandez does not exactly count on as starters or priority players in his Barcelona side.
One such player is former Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, who has already gone through the previous season being barely used by Xavi Hernandez courtesy of Christensen, Araujo, Kounde, and Alonso being preferred over him.
Resultantly, as is being reported by SPORT, the player’s current situation at Barcelona has caught the eye of La Liga side Real Betis, who are of the belief that they could temporarily take away Garcia from the hands of Barcelona through the act of a loan deal for the 22-year-old.
The player currently ponders the prospect for himself, while being aware that his game time at Barcelona will be extremely limited in the upcoming season with the addition of Inigo Martinez and the chances youth players will also potentially be receiving next season.
In recent times, Barcelona and Betis have developed their relationship and have worked on other operations in unison as well, namely that of Brazilian right-back Emerson’s. With the appointment of Ramon Planes at Real Betis as well, those relations are expected to improve even further, with not just Garcia being a possible joint mission, but also potentially that of Arda Guler’s.
