Owing to their strained finances, FC Barcelona will have to generate a significant amount of money in the upcoming summer transfer window to balance their books and make the necessary additions to their squad.

In addition to sales of some of their highly valued players, another way by which the Catalans can earn this needed money is through the sale of their former players on whom they still have some rights.

One such player who can bring some money into the coffers of FC Barcelona is the 24-year-old defender, Oscar Mingueza, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugranes are keeping a close eye on his situation at Celta Vigo.

Mingueza himself is having a good season with the La Liga side and has been impressive in whatever role his former coach Rafa Benitez, and current coach, Claudio Giraldez, have given him. Thus, several teams across Europe are taking an interest in him, especially from the Serie A.

However, while the player himself has been impressive, his side has not particularly shone during this time and is only five points above the relegation zone. While Celta Vigo are quite confident of avoiding the possibility of relegation, nothing is certain for now, and their relegation would allow Mingueza to leave the club.

Such a move will be welcome for Barcelona, as they included a sell-on clause in the player’s contract when he left for Vigo. Thus, the Catalans will get 50% of any fee obtained for the defender in the future. Furthermore, Barcelona also have a buyback option on the Spaniard, but the likelihood of Catalans exercising this option is very slim.

Getting Mingueza back for free is not entirely ruled out at the Blaugrana club, but a lot of things will have to get into motion for that to happen, and his return is not a priority for the club.

Thus, whichever turn Mingueza’s future takes in the coming months, Barcelona will be keeping a close eye as they can obtain a sporting or economic advantage from him.
