Barcelona calm about teenage sensation’s continuity at the club

The emergence of Lamine Yamal has been clearly the most notable aspect of the current season for FC Barcelona. The youngster made his first team debut last season, but it has only been in the current season that he has actually announced himself to the world with top-class performances at the highest level.

The world once again witnessed his talents last night as he participated in the match between Spain and Brazil at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he received an ovation for his good display in the match.

The stock of the young winger has increased dramatically in the last few months, but as Mundo Deportivo has reported, Barcelona are completely relaxed about his long-term association with the Catalan club.

One of the main reasons for the club’s ease in regards to Yamal is the contract that the player signed last October, which will remain in effect till 2026, and which has put a release clause of €1 billion on the forward.

The duration of this contract is three years as Yamal is still a minor and FIFA regulations do not allow for longer contracts for players under the age of 18.

Had it not been for this renewal, the winger was going to be a free agent in the coming summer. However, the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, helped Barcelona get this renewal signed despite the interest of other big European clubs.

To make things even better, there is already an agreement between Joan Laporta and Mendes to get another 5-year contract signed once Yamal turns 18 years of age. Thus, the youngster’s long-term continuity at Barcelona is already guaranteed, as his future is sorted for the coming seven years.

Still, the player’s performances have meant that other clubs are looking for ways to lure him away from Barcelona. PSG is one of the clubs interested in him, but the fact that Yamal himself wants to succeed as a Barcelona player further reassures the club about his future.
