The ongoing saga concerning FC Barcelona and former 31-year-old Brazilian superstar Neymar Jr continues to gain momentum as various reports keep advancing and new sources progressively keep on evolving the story.
From what these various reports have thus far concluded in the agreement is that the player is fully willing to return to FC Barcelona and that the Catalan club is currently working out to find a formula that would allow them to ensure his arrival to the club.
However, in a recent update provided by Spanish news outlet SPORT, an interview was conducted with new FC Barcelona first captain Sergi Roberto in which various topics were addressed alongside that of Neymar Jr which the 31-year-old Spaniard addressed.
Asked regarding his opinion on a possible return for Neymar Jr to FC Barcelona, the Spanish star replied with a positive stance, suggesting that he reminisced the times at Barcelona when Neymar Jr was still dressed in the Blaugrana colors and the Catalan club was a true force to be reckoned with as they won almost everything there was to win, stating:
“Yes, it excites me because in the end, he’s a former teammate who is a friend, and I’ve experienced many good things with him over the years. When he was on the team, those were some of the best years I’ve had with the Barcelona first team; we won everything.”
However, the captain did state that the final decision was up to the sporting staff and higher-ups at Barcelona as they would look to make the best possible decision they can:
“He’s a very different player from all the others. I’m sure he would bring a lot to us, but in the end, I’m not the one who decides. So, those in charge of making the decision, whether he comes or not, will decide what’s best for the club. What we want is to have the best possible team to compete for everything and to have the best players.”
Lastly, the player was even asked if he had any contact with Neymar Jr ever since these reports started to gain traction to which the 31-year-old Barcelona captain replied with a positive affirmation that he did and even commented that Neymar Jr would be very excited at the prospect of getting to possibly rejoin the Catalan club, as he stated:
“Yes, yes, he would be excited about it.”
It remains to be seen how the final conclusion of this rather complicated operation takes place for Barcelona, but there are reports that suggest it could potentially come at the cost of another 20-year-old star.
