While there are those who may have waited entire lifetimes to represent clubs like FC Barcelona, there are also those who at a point can no longer afford to wait given certain circumstances.
Italian side Fiorentina currently possesses the services of Moroccan defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. The midfielder most famously announced his presence to the rest of Europe courtesy of his undoubtedly excellent performances for the Moroccan National Team during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Since then, the 26-year-old has been a target for FC Barcelona. Originally hoping to bring him in during the January transfer window of 2023, the move would ultimately collapse as Fiorentina had no intention of selling him and made the operation frankly unfeasible.
Later on, the next idea was to wait until the summer after which Fiorentina would be requested to loan the player with an option to buy added into the deal. Despite the Serie A club’s promise to the Moroccan to make his dream of joining Barcelona easier during the summer, the club is still against the proposal on the table that includes the loan deal.
Most recently however, as reported by SPORT, the player has begun to realize that he simply can not afford to keep waiting for Barcelona to find the approval for their presented Feasibility Plan and even then have to blindly rely on them to formulate an offer that Fiorentina end up accepting.
Consequently, the player has decided to look into other potential suitors, and as SPORT understands, that includes the English Premier League side Manchester United. The Red Devils are in a position to fund his transfer and are insistent that he is a player they consider a priority.
Amrabat’s contract with Fiorentina ends with the club next summer in 2024. If FC Barcelona indeed consider him to be the answer in their conquest to find a replacement for Sergio Busquets, they may have to act quickly.
There is no guarantee that the player even waits till becoming a free agent next season before moving, so the Catalans have to be calculated and quick about their business.
