As the current season draws to a close, FC Barcelona are already preparing for the upcoming campaign. Despite facing financial constraints, the Blaugranes are determined to strengthen their squad significantly.
To achieve this, they must explore various avenues, including generating additional revenue through economic levers, selling current squad members, or leveraging sell-on clauses from players sold to other clubs.
One potential revenue source could be Ez Abde, a player who departed the Catalan club last summer with a sell-on clause attached to his contract. The Moroccan winger made a move to Real Betis, fetching Barcelona €7.5 million.
However, Abde has found it challenging to secure a regular starting spot at Real Betis. He has only managed 750 minutes of play in La Liga, scoring a single goal in 22 league appearances, mostly as a substitute.
Moreover, Abde appears to have fallen out of favor with Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini following an incident where he delayed warming up for a match against Girona, leading to his role being handed to Rodri Sánchez.
As a result, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Real Betis are now considering parting ways with the Moroccan winger in the upcoming summer transfer window. The report also indicates that AC Milan, along with several La Liga clubs, has shown interest in Abde.
However, meeting Real Betis’s demands could prove challenging for most clubs, as the Spanish side is likely to demand a significant fee, considering the 50% sell-on clause attached to Abde’s contract.
This clause stipulates that half of any transfer fee received for the player will be redirected to the coffers of FC Barcelona. Additionally, Barcelona holds a buyback clause in Abde’s current contract. However, it seems improbable that the Blaugranes will trigger this clause, given Abde’s current form and struggles at Real Betis.
