While FC Barcelona will be looking to bring in some proven and experienced players to reinforce their squad for the upcoming season, the Catalan club has not taken its eyes off from the grass-root level talent to ensure they have the best-emerging players in their own youth ranks.
This is clear from the acquisitions that the club has made in recent times, with the most prominent players who are expected to arrive at the club being Byron Mendoza and Marcos Parriego, from Rayo Vallecano and Leganes respectively.
Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona have also managed to acquire another up-and-coming talent and one of the best defensive players from the 2009 generation, i.e., Alvaro Gomez. Gomez is a highly-rated defender, but it is not only his defensive contributions that have raised him to prominence in the Real Valladolid Cadet A team.
He also has a considerable scoring ability, and the youngster has already scored seven goals, thus contributing significantly to the team being coached by Mario Vazquez, which currently stands second in its league.
Previously, Gomez had played mainly in the center of the defense. However, this season, he has also been playing as a right-back, and Barcelona have acquired him mainly with a view to reinforce the right-back area.
Trainers at Real Valladolid are very impressed by the teenager’s talents, and he is frequently called up to train with the club’s Juvenil A team. After arriving at Barcelona, he is expected to be a part of the Cadet A squad for the upcoming season, but will also have the opportunity to get promoted to higher categories if he performs well.
FC Barcelona have very high hopes for the youngster, and are particularly impressed by his versatility. Hopefully, Gomez will be able to grow at a good pace in his new surroundings, and maybe become a first-team player for the club in the future.
