The upcoming game against Villarreal will need FC Barcelona to ensure that they can have as many players as available prior to the game given that they already have a slate of stars that will be unavailable due to either injury or suspension, while the game itself is a must-win ordeal for the Catalan giants.
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has also recently called up several players from the subsidiary in order to compensate for the absence of stars such as Pedri, and Araujo due to injury and that of Raphinha as well due to suspension, with the Villarreal game being his last to miss out on due to said suspension.
Moreover, it appears that Barcelona could even look to enlist the help of one of their first team veterans who has thus far remained unregistered. According to Jijantes FC, Barcelona will be looking to register Spanish defender Marcos Alonso in the records of La Liga before the upcoming game on Sunday.
Previously a complicated ordeal due to the limited salary margin and lack of Financial Fairplay, Barcelona are now able to consider registering the player due to the contract extension of German goalkeeper and Barcelona captain Marc Andre Ter Stegen.
Courtesy of the new extension signed by the 31-year-old, Barcelona has been able to defer his salary and thus create more salary margin to work with. Consequently, both Inaki Pena and Marcos Alonso are now expected to be registered next.
Other previously unregistered players included central defender Clement Lenglet and fullback Sergino Dest, with the latter having gone on loan to Dutch side PSV while Lenglet has already now been officially registered.
The only player left unregistered for the first team now is new summer arrival Inigo Martinez. However, given that he was mostly injured leading up to this game and still working on returning to full strength, him being left unregistered would not be impacting proceedings either way in terms of him not being available for selection with Barcelona as of yet.
