Conducting shrewd business has become a necessity for FC Barcelona at this point in time. Given their financial troubles, it is only natural for the Blaugranes to resort to methods where they do not have to exert any unnecessary financial muscles.
The arrivals of Inigo Martinez from Athletic Bilbao and Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City were proof of this. Both veterans arrived after the expiration of their contracts with their respective clubs. Providing both quality and depth to La Blaugrana, as well as no extra financial burden, their arrivals were looked at quite positively.
Now, it appears that Barcelona may be looking to revisit that formula. Reported to have been previously interested in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, it now seems that the interest has reached an extreme stage for the Catalan club.
According to journalist Enric Canyellas, FC Barcelona and 21-year-old Nico Williams have reached a total agreement on personal terms. With his contract set to expire in June of 2024, the player is more or less open to negotiate with whichever club he wishes to join in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The only way this would apply, however, would be if he does not renew with Bilbao. According to the journalist’s report, the player has no intention of renewing with his current side and will be open to the move to FC Barcelona.
Just as he previously broke the news for the agreement with Inigo Martinez, Canyellas now states that Nico Williams will be a Barcelona player starting from the 2024/25 season. This news comes as a massively positive update for Barcelona given how strong the young winger has thus far performed this season.
Valued at €30 million by Transfermarkt, his statistics speak for themselves. Within 6 La Liga outings, he has already managed to provide 4 assists. Moreover, he has also been exceptional with the Spanish National team and has connected well with his teammates, particularly the stars from Barcelona interestingly.
