Frenkie de Jong spoke about his future with the club, his new role in midfield, comparisons with the level of Man City, being Busquets’s successor, and last summer’s transfer saga in his recent interview with NOS Sport.
Frenkie on Missing Life of Netherlands:
“Some small things, but I think life here in BCN is fantastic. If things continue to go well with myself and the club, I would like to stay here as long as possible.”
Frenkie on his new role in the midfield:
“It suits me better. The coach, the team, and I myself like it.”
Frenkie on Man City:
“They have been at that high level for years. We want to go there. I think we have a good team, with a lot of potential, and many young players. We have to show it.”
Frenkie on being Busquets’s successor:
“I hear it often, but I think we are different players. He is a real fixed ‘6’ according to the Barcelona profile. I need freedom of movement.”
Frenkie on Nations League:
“I am looking forward to it. There is only one thing left for me this season and that is the Nations League. We know it is not a Euros or World Cup, but we want to win a trophy.”
Frenkie on last summer’s transfer saga:
“Well, you don’t know how things go. Maybe this summer it will be different again, but I feel good here.”
Frenkie on recent failures in Europe:
“We became champions this year with many points ahead of top teams such as Real Madrid and Atlético. We are not far from it, but we have to do better. The last few years in Europe have not been good enough. We have to make sure we do better and we will do that for next year.”
