As the current international break comes to an end, there are only a few days left till FC Barcelona return to action with their La Liga match against UD Las Palmas.

The Catalans will be unable to see Julian Araujo up close in this game, as he has a fear clause in his contract. However, Barcelona will still be keeping a close eye on another Las Palmas player, Mika Marmol.

The defender has been performing at a very high level in his first year in La Liga, as he joined Las Palmas last summer after making his Barcelona debut under Xavi Hernandez on the last day of the 2021-22 league season.

After that season, Marmol joined Andorra for free, but Barcelona kept a 50% right on any future transfer fee on the player.

Garcia Pimienta, who had worked with the youngster at Barcelona Atletic, requested his acquisition when he achieved promotion to La Liga with Las Palmas, and the Canary Islanders paid €1.9 million for him.

This move has turned out well for all the involved parties, as Marmol has established himself as an integral part of the Las Palmas squad, while Barcelona still retain a 50% right on him.

SPORT reports that his performances are not being monitored closely only by Barcelona, as fellow La Liga club Girona is also keeping a close eye on him, and is interested in acquiring his services for the next season.

Both the Girona coach and Sporting Director believe that Marmol is a player that matches their team’s style of play, and are open to making a move for him, especially as the team can qualify for the Champions League next season.

The defender has a €10 million release clause in his current contract, and if Girona activates this clause, half of this sum will go into Barcelona’s coffers.

On the other hand, Barcelona themselves are not interested in bringing him back to the club, mainly because there is already an overbooking of defenders in the squad.
