In a recent broadcast on his Twitch channel, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Luis Enrique, one of the most beloved coaches at FC Barcelona, disclosed the reasons behind his decision not to consider a return to the Blaugrana club in the near future.
This revelation comes in light of Xavi Hernández’s impending departure from the club at the end of the season, leading to speculation about potential successors.
The Asturian coach, currently under contract with PSG until 2025, emphasized his commitment to honoring his existing agreement, a principle he holds dear in his professional conduct:
“I have always said that I would like to [return to Barcelona], but the reality is that it is very difficult for our paths to cross.”
“While Barcelona may be in need of a coach, I have a rule to fulfill my contracts and honor the trust placed in me. I will not be the one to breach that contract; it is not my style, and I will never do it.”
At PSG, Luis Enrique has been enjoying a successful tenure, leading the team to the top of Ligue 1 with a 12-point lead over Brest, with 12 games remaining in the season.
Furthermore, he is scheduled to face Rennes in the Coupe de France semifinals on Wednesday, April 3, and must confront FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals. Earlier this year, he led PSG to victory in the French Super Cup against Toulouse on January 3rd.
Despite his commitment to PSG, Luis Enrique expressed his interest in coaching a Premier League club in the future, revealing that he had been in negotiations with two clubs before joining PSG.
However, he is currently fully focused on his role at PSG, emphasizing his dedication by learning French as a means to immerse himself in the culture of the club and its fans.
Regarding a potential return to the Spanish national team, where he previously served as head coach, Luis Enrique spoke fondly of his time with La Roja, describing it as a unique experience that contributed significantly to his growth as a coach.
He expressed his willingness to return to the national team, highlighting the trust and support he received from the staff and players during his tenure.
While Luis Enrique’s immediate future may not involve a return to FC Barcelona, his continued success at PSG and his openness to new challenges hint at a promising career ahead, both in club football and on the international stage.
